Christianity, the largest religion in the entire world, connects majorly to the philosophies of the American Dream. Ever since the beginning of the religion, Christian figures have largely followed an ascetic lifestyle. People such as Jesus and John the Baptist fasted for forty days as they thought it would further their chances to reaching salvation. Many early Christians shared this mindset, believing that following a path of asceticism would open their minds to their true spiritual meaning on earth, and would elevate their chances of reaching salvation. Ascetic mindsets in Christianity were almost forgotten about during times, but with monasticism, the concept of not having a strong attachment to material items is key to Christian philosophies. Throughout Christian scripture and the lives of Christians, one can see that their philosophies are more strongly rooted in the idea of making strong connections with people and with God, and not worrying about material possessions as they did not mean much at all in the long run. Because of this, fundamental Christian philosophies make it so that they relate strongly to those of the modern American Dream.
Even though Christianity has changed and developed since its origin, many Christians and their lifestyles tie directly to the modern American Dream. Originally, some of the most prominent figures in the entire religion, such as Jesus and John the Baptist demonstrated ascetic lifestyles, and asceticism is a core aspect of desired life today. They cared about forming relationships with others and taught how to live life by doing so with meaning, instead of focusing on the minute things in life that don’t matter, such as material goods. Their lives were based around forming a strong connection with God, and this lifestyle that followed a path of meaning coincides strongly with the American Dream, as the dream advocates for living life with meaning. They wanted to discover their true spiritual significance on earth, and they were dedicated to discovering that and made it their primary focus, leaving aside and not bothering with the aspects of life that have no true importance. All of these aspects provided the foundation for Christianity and are still followed today, and they all relate to the contemporary life experience. Forming strong relationships, focusing on aspects of life that truly matter, and forgetting about the things in life that do not have any value are some of the things that Christianity and the modern American Dream have in common.
As they are both one of the three Abrahamic religions, one can find many shared fundamental aspects between Christianity and Islam.
