timothy treadwell
Timothy Treadwell was an American naturalist, and is known mainly for his experiences of living alongside bears in Katmai National Park in Alaska for thirteen summers. Treadwell lived simply during his summers in Alaska, but the main concept of his expeditions was that he cared about forming relationships with those in the world and the world itself. Treadwell was always safe and cautious when it came to forming relationships with the bears, and he wanted to prove that peace and relationships could be made between more than just humans to humans. Life is extensive and has so much to offer, and people often get absorbed in the things that don’t matter. Timothy Treadwell found something that he cared about and was able to do act upon it in order to make a difference.
Timothy Treadwell didn’t care about material possessions or the excess in life, but rather only cared about forming relationships that were meaningful. This concept of creating lasting, deep relationships is one of the fundamental aspects of the modern American Dream. The American Dream highlights simplifying life and taking notice of the aspects of life that are most important to attaining happiness, and Timothy Treadwell was able to experience major aspects of such by making lasting, deep relationships with bears in the wilderness. Even though the relationships that he made were not with other people, they were meaningful and explained to him that the world was naturally peaceful, and species only lived separately because of the attitudes and actions that people have and do. Timothy Treadwell defied society and immersed himself in the importance of life by creating these lasting relationships, and despite the obscurity of his experiences, they still highlighted the philosophies of the American Dream.
Timothy Treadwell became one with nature during his time in the wild, and the same can be said for the infamous Christopher Thomas Knight.
